The Process of Estate Planning
If you’re ready to begin the process of estate planning, congratulations! You have taken the first step in protecting your assets, as well as the lives of you and your loved ones. Let’s take a look at what the process of estate planning looks like.
The First Meeting
During our first meeting together, we will go over any questions you might have, both about the details of estate planning as well as any questions you might have regarding working with our firm. We’ll answer your questions and ask many of our own. We need to learn about you and your family so we can go over your goals, values, and aspirations concerning the estate planning process. Let us know at this time if there is a particular situation that brought you to our office in the first place. The more we can learn about you and your family, as well as your goals and wishes for the future, the better we will be able to advise you in creating a lasting legacy.
If you have done any previous estate planning, be sure to bring any relevant documents with you as we will want to do a review of those, as well as make any appropriate recommendations.
Strategy Planning Meeting
Generally, we will get together again so we can discuss a strategy with you, as well as give you a summary of the overall estate planning plan. We want to make sure you understand all of what that entails. We also want to make sure you are comfortable with the plan and feel that all of your wishes and goals have been addressed. We will talk too about the funding of your plan. Again, if you have questions, we are happy to answer those.
Depending on how complicated your plan and your wishes are, there might be additional meetings after this to hone the details of your plan.
Signing the Documents
Once the plan is in place, you will need to sign the documents. Again, we will take the time to explain what all of the documents mean, as well as answer any questions you might still have.
